8 out of 10 business leaders consider collaborative work with technological partners an enabler of generative AI adoption at scale

  • 96% of the respondents state that their organization is taking measures to improve its capacity for adopting and using generative AI for software and application development.
  • More than half of the respondents point out that the lack of training (51%) and scalability (55%) are the factors hindering them in optimizing generative AI for software and application development.
  • Speeding up time to market (61%) and increasing productivity in software delivery (59%) are the most important objectives for software and application development, according to software and application developers and managers.

8 out of 10 business leaders consider collaborative work with technological partners an enabler of generative AI adoption at scale. This is the main conclusion of a 2024 commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of NTT DATA, with the aim of analyzing the key factors for the application of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in companies. The survey for this study was conducted with 248 software and application developers and managers from global entities, representing multiple industries in North America, Asia-Pacific, and EMEA.

The results confirm the growing interest of companies in generative AI. Specifically, 96% of the surveyed individuals state that their organization is taking measures to improve its capacity for adopting and using generative AI. However, more than half of the respondents (55%) also state that their organization still lacks the necessary level of IT capacity to support and scale the use of generative AI throughout the organization.

Hence, 80% believe that partnering with third-party service providers can help their companies to more successfully scale generative AI. According to the survey respondents, this collaboration significantly drives strategic objectives for companies, highlighting the acceleration of time to market (61%) or the increase in software delivery productivity (59%) as the most important objectives for the respondents.

Lack of training and scalability, the main challenges for generative AI adoption

The study also highlights some challenges for the adoption of generative AI. More than half of the participants emphasize the lack of bandwidth and scalability (55%) and proper training (51%) as the main obstacles for their organizations to apply this type of technology in software and application development.

Moreover, 60% of the respondents state that they cannot keep up with the necessary pace of change to succeed. This lack of agility and adaptability throughout the company contributes to some organizations lagging behind in crucial strategic initiatives, such as improving user experience, increasing revenue, and enhancing productivity.

In this regard, David Pereira, Head of Data & Intelligence at NTT DATA points out: "Generative AI is positioning itself as a key tool for organizations on many levels. However, its implementation is not without challenges, and it is essential for companies to have the support of expert partners in this necessary transition towards emerging technologies in an agile, efficient, and secure manner. At NTT DATA, we are committed to leading that transformation, accompanying our clients in the effective integration of AI."
